There are 6909 living languages in the world today, despite that there is one language that we all speak without even noticing it. We all send signals to other people and we can’t help it, and we do it through body movements, facial expressions, voice tone and loudness, hand gestures, and posture. When talking to people we receive a lot of information non-verbally. Knowing this you can tell what people are telling you without even knowing it.
The first thing people notice is their eyes, eye contact is really important. People with strong
eye contact are perceived as confident. Strong eye contact suggests that you are interested in the interaction and is one of the early signs that a person likes you. When holding strong eye contact you may be seen as angry and creepy and people will mostly brake the eye contact. When two people are talking the person listening usually makes stronger eye contact while the person talking usually is looking away. Some people that suffer from autism or social anxiety may find eye contact uncomfortable.
A facial expression is an expression of emotion that we send to other people, that’s why if you’re upset, the other person can probably tell by your facial expression.
A microexpression is a brief and really short facial expression that is shown on the face according to the emotions that are being experienced. Unlike regular pro-longed facial expressions, it is difficult to fake a micro expression. There are seven universal microexpressions, they are, disgust, anger, fear, sadness, happiness, surprise, and contempt. They often occur as fast as 1/15 to 1/25 of a second. Microexpressions are universal and that’s why people can be easily read.
The tone of the voice is another way of reading people because of its obvious meaning, high pitch suggests excitement and passion while low pitch suggests boredom and tiredness.
There is open and closed body language. Taking up space is a clear message that you feel comfortable and safe. Talking with your hands, an easy way to emphasise words is through your hand movements, this can lead you to appear more credible and assured. The most obvious sign that someone likes you is the position of their feet, if their feet are pointing at you that means that they want you to approach them.
Negative signs like crossed arms, legs and feet pointing the opposite direction is a
sign of insecurity and fear which tells you to back off.
