Scientists have observed the evolution of an entirely new species, in the wild, and in real time.

A fertile hybrid of two different species of Darwin’s Finch has been found in the Galapagos Islands, the offspring of Geospiza fortis and Geospiza conirostris, showed significant evolutionary changes from previous generations, changes that were previously thought to have only been able to occur in hundreds of generations occurred within just three. This is the most rapid occurrence of evolutionary development ever observed.

F.C.C. Plans Net Neutrality Repeal in a Victory for Telecoms

“The Federal Communications Commission released a plan last  Tuesday to dismantle landmark regulations that ensure equal access to the internet, clearing the way for internet service companies to charge users more to see certain content and to curb access to some websites.”

Many Americans fear the F.C.C.’s plan to abolish net neutrality could lead to censorship.

Scientists find key to regenerating blood vessels

VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) plays a crucial role in new blood vessel development. Now a team of researchers from Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute has found that the protein R-Ras is vital in lumen stability. Without R-Ras the new vessels are essentially rendered non-functional. This discovery could help treat prevent diseases such as cardiac or peripheral circulatory collapse.

Rocket maker SpaceX raises another $100 million

Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has managed to raise $100 million from private investors. Musk has said in the past that he doesn’t want the company going public until they’re making frequent trips to and from Mars. The first manned Mars mission is scheduled for 2022.
