The bogball is back, and its back with a vengeance.
Jaysus, I gave up shifting the sister to watch it all.
So the O’Byrne and John Winston Lennon cups are all finished and its time for the league and what a start did we get in Croke Park?
It was a doubleheader for the Dubs as the hurlers took on Offaly and the footballers took on the once mighty Kildare.
It was a night of extremes for the dubs with the hurlers falling to a very impressive Offaly, who for once looked like they did some training. They came out winners 2-25 to 1-15. A mountain for the Dubs and their new manager to climb considering the opposition they will have to face. The footballers had a much better time in Croker, coming out eventual winners by 7 points. Despite a great first half display, the Lillywhites went home from the “Big Smoke” with nothing but a trip to the zoo.
Meanwhile, there was a great win for Cork in the other capital as the “Rebels” came through victors against the Cats in the new look, very grey, Pairc Ui Choimh. However not much celebrating done for the Cork footballers as they lost to brilliant looking Tipperary by two goals.
Also, there were wins in the football for Clare, Carlow and Laois but who cares? Seriously who really cares? I didn’t even know there was a Carlow until I had to drive through it once and got lost. Lost in Carlow…what a nightmare?!!
Sunday came, I woke up in Galway with a major hangover and went down to The Kings Head for a curer and a look at the Tribes take on Tyrone in the football and Antrim in the hurling. The hurlers were looking to make their mark felt, but with most of the stars of 2017 taking a week off to look after their cattle, it was a tighter affair than it should have been. Galway eventually ran out winners but only by 3 points 1-19 to 1-16. The footballers had a much better day with a great start to their first division saga. The Tribes beating all Ireland semi-finalists, Tyrone, 1-9 to 0-8.
In 1A there were wins for Clare over Tipp and Davvy Fitz’s Wexford over Waterford. Davvy only had a minor meltdown during the game, causing Wexford fans to voice their concerns on social media. Limerick beat Laois but again…who cares?
The game of the day in Football came from Killarney where Kerry took on Donegal. A five goal thriller the likes has not been seen since before the British ate all the spuds.
An impressive looking Kerry coming out one point winners against an equally impressive looking Donegal. Both setting down a marker for the rest of the season
Mayo and Down won. Some other counties that don’t matter won. I dont know. Leitrim took time off shagging sheep to play a match.
Look up the results yourself.
I’m off to the pub. Ask me arse!!!
